It is no surprise to me that I have an obsessive tendancy, but every now there is a perfect example that just makes me say to myself “you crazy indulgent b£$%rd!”

Recently I bought probably my fifth or sixth copy of Stumpz, a 1930s game I have written about previously. Why another? Because this one, from a charity shop in Lamberth, had a brochure I had never seen before. I had to have it.

Upon arrival today it was everything I hoped and then a little bit more. Wonderful prose promoting the game, calling it “Britain’s National Indoor Game”. A little over stated perhaps, but with sentances like “luckily it was a fine summer. But even if it had rained every Saturday, it wouldn’t have mattered to the cricket fans. They had Stumpz to play!”

I will add these to the larger post on Stumpz at a later date, but wanted to share this news just in.

Cracking cricket quote

“The English are not very spiritual people, so they invented cricket to give them some idea of eternity.”
